MECHANICSVILLE, MARYLAND (February
10, 2023) – The 2023 offseason has
been an eventful one with
improvements and additions still
underway. Shaping the 2023 season to
be a great one.

One of the additions that Maryland
International Raceway (MIR) has
acquired during the off season has
been a second Power Scraper! This
will allow MIR to scrape the
starting line as needed for track
maintenance during events in half
the time as before. While few tracks
have this specialized piece of
equipment, MIR is one of the very
few, if not the only drag racing
facility, to have two. Thank you to
sponsors Mike Guy at Guy Brothers
Marine for providing MIR both Zero
Turn Mowers and for all the
fabrication work done by Randy Payne
at Randy Payne Motorsports. Special
thank you also to Kurt Johnson at
TVC for engineering the design and
production of the Power Scrapers.

The Clean Up Truck, a 2000 Ford F150
from Eli Patrick at Purvis Ford, has
been a staple at MIR for over 20
years. The truck has been beaten and
battered by every weather condition
possible. But thanks to Kyle Goad
and the team at East Coast
Collision, the truck was given a
fresh coat of paint during the
offseason and looks good as new! New
lettering on the truck will be
coming soon.

Another update which has been
completed, the worn and rutted
concrete in the water box has been
replaced! Derek Ward and a team from
D&S Decorative Concrete have removed
the old concrete and replaced it
with a fresh new water box for
racers to clean and evenly heat
their tires in.

The wooden fencing that was in place
behind the Maintenance Building, had
become dilapidated and was falling
apart. Home to many pieces of
equipment and materials that are
vital to the operation of the
facility, this containment area now
has new fencing that will hold up
for years to come and will be much
easier to look at. Thank you to
George Bowles at Bowles Fencing for
helping with this much needed
facelift.

Many racers enjoy parking on the
back road, and we have listened to
you all! One of the many requested
upgrades is underway and will be
completed soon. The back road will
have three speaker poles added for
our racers that park there. This
will improve the PA for the lane
calls, event updates, and other
important information happening
during race days. Other PA
improvements include an expanded and
improved PA in the shutdown for
racers parking at the ET Shack and
beyond.

One upgrade that will be the first
to be noticed, will be all new sign
faces on the highway sign on Rt 234.
In addition to the new faces the
internally lighting has been
upgraded with new LED lights.

MIR has also purchased a vacuum
truck to enhance track and facility
clean up. The vacuum truck is
currently being reconditioned in
Texas, with delivery expected to be
in late March.

Last but not least, we are expanding
the Prep Shed behind the starting
line. As we have added additional
track maintenance equipment
including the two power scrapers, we
need more space to keep that
equipment out of the weather. Work
will be underway once county permits
are acquired.
Thank you to all the racers, fans,
and sponsors for your support so we
can continue to keep improving for
the enjoyment of everyone!
